Obamacare; Not Everyone Wants A Cadillac!

The problem with the Obamacare program from the get-go has been the liberals' insistence that the plan wraps every possible liberal lifestyle cause and brings them under one very expensive umbrella. While that plan endears them to their liberal electorate, especially the 30 million green check tit-suckers who will pay nothing for their care, it creates a tremendous burden on everyone else.

Just look at the old policies that Americans accepted under free market conditions; they wanted a health care policy that covered them nicely under catastrophic conditions like the onset of disease, required surgery and reasonable post op therapies.  They did not expect their health care to cover every aspirin and band aid, nor did they opt to pay for "million dollar per year drug therapies" for AIDS care, since they exercised a modicum of restraint in their sex lives.  Nor did they need for their health care policy to cover the morning after pill or abortions since they bred responsibly and didn't need to practice birth control by abortion.  No, folks just wanted a plan that would pay for, say, 80 percent of the catastrophic costs to keep them from losing their homes and their savings due to a medical bankruptcy.  And they were happy to pay extra if they smoked, but damned if they'd pay for irresponsible breeding, AIDs and for fat-assed Medicaid trolls who ate fast food at every turn.

In other words Americans were perfectly happy to settle for a Chevy, knowing the costs for that big obscene Cadillac!  But, as we have seen, the arrogance of the liberal ilk want to tell you what's best for you…and what's best for you is what liberals say is best for you…and for their adoring supporters!

So, when millions of policies were cancelled because they weren't "Cadillacs", when millions more took a look at the bill and saw three and fourfold increases in the their premiums they were shocked!

And now, just today, we learn that Obama is trying to "purty up" the whole ugly mess by again crawling in bed with the insurance companies and throwing more taxpayer money their way as bribes for resurrecting those millions of cancelled policies!  What Obama proposes is to have the government share the "profits and losses" that would result in resurrecting all those millions of cancelled "Chevy" policies, upgrading them to Cadillacs for the next three years and have YOU, the taxpayer foot the bill for the "clean up".  Ironically, can anyone spell "GM?"

And keep in mind, the additional trillions in policy losses Obama says the feds will absorb is in addition to the trillions already budgeted for all those subsidized policies he's promise to support.  And, if that's not enough, you, the taxpayer will absorb even more hurt as you lay out three or four times more money for your own new Obamacare premiums!

Oh, and by the way, none of these costs will come due until after the 2014 and 2016 elections!   Notice the Insurance company "bribe" is to be settled after a three year period?   Does that ring a bell with anyone??????  Remember when Obama front loaded the Obamacare bennies…but you didn't get the "real bill" until after the 2012 elections?  If the American people swallow this one they deserve everything they get…and it's gonna be ugly if they let Obama buy off the insurance companies and send you a huge bill in three years time!

A quick thought: Since we will be paying for the fat assed fast food leaches we have the right, no responsibility to make sure they make healthy choices.Basically stand out in front of the fast food places and deny entry to anyone overweight or unhealthy looking. have fun with this.

Mike, don't know why you removed your comment but I agree with it….the problem with Obamacare is that it puts everyone into everyone else's business, and, like Socialist Obama, it tells you what you should and shouldn't do.

correction: Craig…glad to see you re-posted.

You are pretty good at comedy too!
Only you would describe our BA (before Obama) health care system as perfect and cost effective.

A Modest Scribler said...

Jerry, please identify the line in today's blog that said the old system was perfect (sadly, you are guilty of creating "fiction" to make your point.) I did say it was better than what this Socialist son of a bitch is pushing us toward.

If you had bothered to enter "health care" in the search block on my blog you would find several blogs which criticizes the old way of doing things.

The Republicans have offered several versions of free market health care that would have eliminated the preexisting conditions problem, advocated for tort reform and put ambulance chasers out of business, marketing of plans across state lines, etc.

Obama, in his usual way, is turning American against American as he creeps deeper and deeper into our lives.

I'm a little disappointed in you…your post was no better than "sniping" and, as with most liberals, you offer no defense for the fiasco that is Obmacare.

Good Morning! We have had 300 years of free market health care in this country and pat 18 percent of our GNP towards healthcare. You seem to be blaming the entire failure on fat people which is pretty bizarre since over 40% of all medical costs accrue in the single last year of a person's life. It is old people if you really want to blame someone! I will admit that I do not know the answer, how's that? I never hunt for blame for any problem. After over 35 years of having employees I had plenty to pass the blame to but that never solved my problems and being a capitalist self-employed person, if I didn't solve the problems then I didn't get paid! My approach has always been to define the issues, find the goal, examine the consequences (pretty important step!) and forge ahead. Blame is always obfuscating and never accomplishes anything. Whether a Republican proposal or National Health, either way, we simply do not have enough doctors.
I can't constantly go back and forth between your posts (although I sometime do) to discover your beliefs, You might consider more self contained essays for your new readers?
I could seriously entertain the concept of making insurance totally illegal. Cash only. It would seriously bring the prices down. Then the rift raft, the illegals, the fat people, the useless veterans and old people could just drift away or be isolated to the edge of town where we don't have to be bothered by them. That is pretty much how free market systems are designed to work. No money, no play.

Jerry, I must have struck a nerve to cause you to go off on a totally irrational rant (containing much of the liberal mantras in common use).

I can address a few issues; no, I'm absolutely not against fat people…I'm fat myself…just don't believe government should pick and choose what to punish under obamacare…triple premiums for smokers but none for AIDS patients or obese welfare queens.

2) Saddle the middle class with huge premiums in order to subsidize 30 million welfare tit suckers. Encourage medicaid waste by not charging even a minimum co-pay for a doctor visit or even a missed appointment. Encourage Medicaid patients to run to the doctor at the first hint of a sniffle (saves them having to put out a couple of bucks for aspirin and cough syrup). Encourage obesity of the welfare ilk by allowing them to buy fast food with their food stamp cards. Lax auditing that allows the Russian mafia for defrauding medicaid and medicare of trillions of dollars over the last decade.
Renege on contract-specified lifetime health care for veterans and military retirees (AND USING THAT BENEFIT TO PAY SALARIES AT HALF THE RATE OF A CIVILIAN), then renege on that contract, force them to pay premiums for their health care, then triple those premiums under OBAMA…Means test VA hospital care for vets, making it just another welfare program and tells the other 70 percent of vets to go to hell.
Allow scooter companies to charge three times the non-medicare rate and buy one for every senior whether they need it or not….pay for penis pumps under medicare….pay for everything imaginable under medicaid.
Ignore those $200,000 dollar lawsuits when an orderly runs over your toe while giving a family member emergency service…
Extort trillions of dollars from tobacco companies for victim smokers, promise to use it for smoking cessation and medical care, then spend it on all day kindergarten for welfare breeders and rat preserves and water parks. I could go on and on with "SOLUTIONS" but that's not the liberal way..they want to keep it all foggy, say it's no one's fault, just say it's expensive without ever breaking down the numbers….and yes, I blame Obama for making it far worse and even more dysfunctional.

Forgot to add, Jerry; don't worry about that 40% spent on old people…obama's got that fixed too with his death panel. Shuffle em off to hospice, baby!

Jerry Carlin said...

This is simple! I agree with EVERYTHING you say! At least half of the issues you bring up came from the Republicans! both parties are at fault! I still like the Chinese system of dealing with corruption.
It is ironic that the ten "Redist" States get the most in Federal assistance! Lets fix all of the problems, one issue at a time, without the help of Fox News OR MSNBC! or hate radio of any persuasion.
I am waiting for your essay on Detroit! tomorrow, maybe?

Jerry Carlin said...

Thanks, I found your Detroit stories and they run pretty much to form:
all finding blame and missing the real story! Entire cities filing for bankruptcy! THIS was the issue that went to Federal Court, not who did what to whom. Pensions are at stake, all across the USA! I have always been the taxpayer who paid into these pensions for the city workers, retired veterans, postal workers, other government workers, school teachers and more. I paid toward their pensions for over 40 years, never getting one myself. Just bitching t the unfairness of it all. That said, there are consequences. These pensioners spend a lot of money; they are a source of revenue. Funny how that works; when the government cut 5 billion from food stamps Walmart was complaining the loudest! Seem they will have to raise the price of food to make up for lost sales!
The world just ain't fair! Get over it. Watch what happens, pensions are at risk everywhere.

What to say, Jerry. You drag A (which should have been matched with B…all the way over to Z..and then it makes no sense at all.
And, unlike childish liberals, I as an adult conservative can always find blame…because there is always blame.
As to all those government "causes" you have have contributed to over your career, (and you've mentioned that burden innumerable times in your brief fellowship), all I can say is "join the club"..most of us hard working people have made sacrifices at the throne of big government….and let's be frank here; you had a choice: you could have joined the legion of tit-suckers and fed from the public trough and it would have been so much easier. Develop a drug habit, or alcohol, or just a bad case of the lazies, keep submitting disability paperwork until you finally get it, …and if you can breed five or six kids you win the jackpot, welfare, wic, section 8 housing, all day kindergarten..and pre-school also in most states, free medical and dental too on medicaid, a huge child credit bonus come tax time, pell grant for college…the list goes on and on…as long as you pull that lever for liberal Democrats!
As to the other stuff, well, like I said, you drag A (food stamp cuts) to Z (walmart bellowings) as if that's a good reason to continue giving food stamps to those who are capable of work.and won't…or for life's losers who graduated with a degree in illiteracy from high school, can't get a life supporting job…and now expect society to pay for your own personal shortcomings.
Whew! Don't know if I can even follow your non linear reasoning, Jerry. You're disappointing me greatly…and you showed such early promise.

Folks, if you want to make an argument, please try to address the actual points in the article you wish to rebut. As I read it, this post was about serious problems with obamacare. Rebuttals are focusing on alleged problems with the prior system, the philosophy of blame, and other economic woes. If you can't address the points made here, then don't throw out a smokescreen, give it some actual thought.

I will address one rebuttal: the previous system was NOT free market. It was HEAVILY regulated by government, specifically preventing competition and dictating many of the terms of coverage, both of which drove up the costs. Further, the government refused to address tort reform. Apparently its role as a regulating body only went one way.

My initial thought about dropping the "free market" system was that it was throwing the baby out with the bathwater. But to be more accurate, it actually adds much more bathwater, which is the point of the original article. You can't fix a bad system by adding more of the bad stuff. Hate on that system all you want. Obamacare retains EVERY problem in that system, makes some worse, and adds new ones. Meet the new boss, even more unfair to the middle class than the old boss. Try addressing where obamacare is actually better, and I might be able to take you seriously. Whine about blame and how bad the old system was. And pony up even more cash for the new. Good luck. Obama loves you. Really.

A Modest Scribler said...

Anon, I have written about the problems with the old system as well. So, I agree that it was bad. For example, denying care for those with pre-existing conditions was rotten…while at the same time many of those 'pre-existing' conditions was because too many folks chose to go 'rogue' before they go sick…then when they did get sick they wanted health care..not a good way to go about it.
And both parties were in the pocket of some interest group; for Dems it was the lawyers, with Repubs it was the health care insurers…with lots of little pockets of interest groups around also.
So no tort reform, no room for those already sick, no allowance for marketing policies across state lines which created monopolies.
But i will say the Republicans, under threat of Obamacare did indeed come up with a credible free market plan that would have driven down costs and maintained personal choices for our citizens.
And for those who embrace Obamacare, I challenge you to show me any big government program that is not ripe with fraud, waste and abuse and terrible cost inefficiencies.
And thank you for fore going 'smoke screens' and addressing the issue honestly.

One more point (couldn't resist). Health care is not 18% of gdp because of corporate greed and mismanagement. It's because of POPULAR greed and mismanagement. Health care is a luxury, and as such is expensive. When self-centered soccer moms (and dads) take the kids to the doc for every sniffle, and expect incidentals like birth control and penis accessories to be covered, that is a lot of money. Roughly 18% of gdp as I understand it. Think about that the next time you expect insurance to cover every $20 prescription or $85 office visit. People's expectations of entitlement are expensive.

A Modest Scribler said...

And how much cheaper would healthcare be with some tort reform. Docs pay up to $200,000 a year for malpractice insurance.

Anonymous said...

Absolutely. You can't vilify the folks you want saving people. And you can't have frivolous lawsuits in ANY field. I am frankly surprised anyone would be a doctor given what we pay them and what we require of them.

I like my current insurance policy although I would like it to be more a la carte. I have been able to jettison some coverages over the years. I also like our medical system. The one time I needed an ER when I was going terminal in a hurry, it had the excess capacity that I needed. It is expensive to keep those highly trained people and fancy equipment available 24/7 and usually under-utilized. It is better to have some excess capacity than under capacity, just as we pay for in our electric power system.

A Modest Scribler said...

I agree OLD MAN. I would like to choose my own insurance plan…and it doesn't include paying for birth control pills and abortions for reckless breeders.
