If Brits Won, Blacks back to Africa...or transported to South America?
Canadian Historian Paul Pirie recently offered the notion that America would have been far better off without the American Revolution. ( http://news.yahoo.com/why-america-better-off-without-revolution-092500277.html). I've only read the excerpt from the Washington Post but it did get me to thinking.
In some small sense Pirie is right. Here's how I figure it. I worked for ten years with Britishers. I found them to be outwardly polite, quite witty....and racially prejudiced. Like other Europeans, the British still live under an informal class system so they would never have been as open to immigration as was America.
So, how it would it all play out? Well, I'm a firm believer that, if a civilization is to remain vibrant, they need a new generation of immigrants to come, pursue the American dream of opportunity, remind others that working hard leads to success, and add the spice of cultural diversity to a society, as long as it is legal and orderly.
Britain would never have been open to ten or twelve waves of immigration over the past two centuries. And She would never have allowed 20 to 30 million Mexicans to invade her borders. She would have done her damndest to insure White Anglo Saxon Protestants remain at the top of the economic ladder. This fact is fairly clear when you look at how Britain exploited both the Asian and African continent with her colonies, caring not a whit for the welfare of the colonials.
Conversely, British America, with her class system, would never have thrived economically the way America did. There are simply too many system controls that would have discouraged individual entreperneural effort.
Now, here's where it gets interesting: By the American Revolution, the British had already begun reconsidering the benefits of the slave trade. Had Britain retained control of America it is almost certain that the slave trade would have come to a complete halt. Even more likely, the Brits would have transported the remaining American negroes back to Central and South America.
And how would America look today under British rule? Well, probably like Canada! Not as economically advanced as us but far less plagued by Black Urban crime and the staggering burden of supporting 30 million urban Blacks who command .43 cents of every welfare dollar, who commit 50% of all crime, yet represent only 12 percent of the population! The total annual cost to support these millions of white-hating urban Blacks is well over $500 billion dollars....and that does not take into account the cost to fund law enforcement to try and control this crime plague nor the cost to incarcerate them year after year!
So I guess historian Pirie's theory makes some sense. British America would not be plagued with three generations of Blacks who take our welfare and hate us for it. The Blacks who did live here would speak proper English, as they do in Britain and ebonics would not exist. We would not have those three generations of Blacks cawing in our ear about slavery that has been extinct for 150 years so liberals would not live with that white collective guilt that motivates them to treat Blacks as inferior and of constant need of succor....nor would we be so damned politically correct that we overlook abhorrent Black behavior.
Food for thought.
