Our Next Vice President?

Well, early Saturday morning we learned that Congressman Paul Ryan, Republican from Wisconsin, is to be Mitt Romney's pick for the next Vice President of The United States.

What are we to think of this selection?  He's not a graduate of Columbia University.  He's not a graduate of Harvard.  He wasn't selected as the President of the Harvard Law Review.  He didn't get a special free quota scholarship ride to any prestigious university and, instead, had to work his way through Miami University of Ohio.  For God's sake the man drove the Oscar Mayer Wiener Truck one summer and waited tables another!

One morning when Paul Ryan was sixteen years old he went in to wake his father up and found him dead of a heart attack.  He didn't write two books about that experience.  Instead, he assumed the role of adult at an early age, never having the luxury to pursue youthful drug use and the art of socialist revolution.

Instead, Paul Ryan and his mother took his grandmother, suffering from Alzheimers, into the household and served as the primary care provider for his grandma.  His grandma wasn't the Vice President of the Bank of Hawaii so she could offer nothing in return, except the element of "need".

Once Paul Ryan got his BA in Economics from Miami University of Ohio he was hired as a staff economist in Wisconsin Senator Kastin's office.  The job must have not paid well because young Ryan moonlighted as a waiter and fitness trainer.  No one offered him a "token honor" position at the University of Chicago and a $200,000 dollar a year salary.

When a still young Paul Ryan returned to Wisconsin to run for Congress he didn't demonize his opponent and dig up dirt to shovel against him.  He waited until the standing Congressman vacated the office before seeking the office.   In Janesville, Wisconsin they don't have a big political machine to promote you, to criminalize your opponent; instead Paul Ryan had to go door to door and sit at kitchen tables and listen to his future constituents.

After getting elected to Congress Paul Ryan didn't triumphantly march into Washington, buy himself a Georgetown townhouse and proceed over to K Street to rub elbows with lobbyists.  He bunked in his Congressional office and used the house gym for showers and a fresh change of clothes.

Paul Ryan then married and took his bride back to Janesville.  He lives on the same street he lived on as a kid and shares the neighborhood with eight other members of the Ryan clan.  He hunts with the local Janesville hunt club and attends PTA meetings and other civic functions.

For those who can't make those public functions, Paul Ryan bought an old bread truck, converted it into a "mobile constituent office" and drives around to meet with those who need his help and attention.

No, I don't know if we can vote for a guy like this.  He doesn't have a regal pedigree; he's Irish for God's sake!  No one awarded him a Nobel Peace Prize two months after getting elected.  No one threw flowers or got "chills down their leg" as a he took his seat in Congress.

What is most despicable about Paul Ryan is that he has had the nerve to write the House Budget for three years in a row.  He's brazen and heartless in advocating in that budget for a $5 trillion dollar reduction in federal spending over the next ten years!  The House passed his budget three years in a row and three years in a row the Democratically controlled Senate has let it die in the upper house, without ever proposing a budget of their own.   What is wrong with this guy?  If Congress were to cut $5 trillion dollars from the budget where would the President get the money to give $500 million dollars to a bankrupt Solyndra?  Or $200 million dollars for bankrupt Energy 1?  Or $11 billion dollars to illegal aliens filing INIT, non-resident tax returns to claim $11 billion big ones in child tax credits, even for their children living in Mexico?

I don't know.  Paul Ryan seems heartless to me.  He keeps wanting to cut government waste, he keeps wanting to put a halt to those big GSA conventions in Vegas and, worse, he keeps trying to make people look at that $16.7 trillion dollar debt!  The guy's no fun at all!

Who wants a numbers cruncher?  Who wants someone spoiling the party by showing folks the bill?  Nothing will spoil a party quicker than sending the host the bill before the party's over.

Party Hearty folks!  At least until November.

Finally the Romney team did something right. This guy is a real conservative, not a RINO like his running mate. Looking forward to the debate between him and Plugs Biden. I'd rather the ticket were reversed.

This guy is horrendous, the reasons are out there just do a search (I don't need to hold your hand). Obama will win this election.

This is the type person we need in our government to stop the waste and corruption that has plagued us for the past four years. Common sense tells us we need to teign in the spending and take a realistic look as to where we are going and how wer are going to get there. Paul Ryan is the man.

I think you are all full of crap! You elected Pres. Bush and encouraged the banks to keep on ripping you off - now you blsame your mess and national debt on the current admin. Shame on you! you elected Pres. Obama so he would be left holding your dirt bag! Now you want it back - republicans should be accountable - they created the mess in the first place!

BKBradley said...

The republicans didn't create the problem, as "Anonymous" has said. It's been years in the making and compounded by a Democratic congress the last 2 years of a republican's term which a new Democratic community organizer ASKED FOR and promised to fix. He wasn't left holding a "dirt bag" at all. He dug deeper holes and flat covered up everything he could with more dirt coming up continually (and you can add your thoughts to the double meaning on your own). I'd love to have >Paul Ryan, who has common sense and practical experience and a good record over someone who throws gafs over and over, and Romney over someone who whispers promises "off camera" to foreign heads of state and bows rather than stands up FOR the country he is suppose to represent. Our country deserves a break today and I'll back the 2 R's all the way!

Thanks, BK. I believe millions of us are longing for a breath of fresh air. I don't think I've seen a more corrupt administration than this one. Thought Clinton was shady but Clinton's an innocent elf compared to the devious, smooth talking socialist.

Again, thanks for commenting.

We're proud of our hometown boy, but I do wish he had waited to further his aspirations until his kids were a little older. DC is no place for kids.

I am thrilled with Mitt's choice for V.P. Paul Ryan has experience with budgets, the economy, and the "children" in Washington. He is a man of integrity and impecable
morales and character. In other words Paul Ryan is just the opposite of Plugs Biden. America needs a major overhaul and Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are just what the doctor ordered. I am a proud American and Woman Marine who prays that God will bless our nation and watch over the upcoming elections.

They all look real good on paper. But, they are all career politicians - which makes it very difficult for me to believe anything they say. It appears that America has lost its way - our lives have become a huge grey area - there is no right or wrong - because, we might step on someone's toes - God forbid. We need a common man in office & in the majority of the country's political offices. We need leaders that put us back on the path for a stronger, working America. Our elected officials have destroyed the fabric that made us a great nation and, the population sat back and watched it all happen. The question is: Where do we go from here and who do we elect to guide us in the right direction?

Kathy, thanks so much for your comments. A couple of years ago when the Tea Party came to the fore, and elected 89 of their candidates to Congress, I was beginning to believe that America was awakening and getting ready to throw all the long time Congressional "rats" out on their behinds. There are just too many of those old hands that become corrupted the longer they stay in Washington.
There remains real hope since those 89 Tea Party folks in Congress have been raising hell with the old boys.

As to Ryan and Romney, I opt to go with the best choice I have now. I get so angry when I see Obama circumventing the Constitution and ruling "by decree".

Again, thanks for your comments.

I have been following Paul Ryan for about two years or more. He is by far one of the smartest legislators ever to grace Capital Hill. He has forgotten more than most of his collegues will ever know. He is a good man.

Thanks, Paul. We're certainly going to need someone with smarts if we are ever going to get this massive deficit under control.

What do some of these folks not understand? The Obama administration is the only one in recent history not to approve a budget and look at where that will get us in January. But that does not seem to matter as he has told the employers not to abide by the law and inform people thay are being laid off until after the election. The same bull it though methods on immigration and healthcare. Add to this the additions of over a trillion dollars in additional handouts per year and no real reduction in the unemployment percentage. How can this be if there are on average 10,000 baby boomers retiring daily. Based on my simple math, that should open up 300,000 jobs a month and yet we are losing jobs monthly while the unemployment stays at over 8%? It is about time that we have someone who was not born with or given a golden spoon as part of the solution in DC.

A Modest Scribler said...

Tex, you just said it all; if we don't have a change in November it may very well be too late for us after four more years of Obama.

Thanks for commenting.

All his past accomplishments do NOT alter the fact that this is a man who feel it is his DUTY to SEVERELY curtail the full and "inalienable" rights that a woman has to decide what to do with HER body. What he did in his past to be in the position he is in the present, has CLEARLY defined his character, and said character is one in which it demeans, diminishes and detains the rights of one gender as being SUBSERVIENT to another. Tell me he's adamant about requiring a vasectomy of the offending male party in a situation where an "unwanted" child is produced (however the source, INCLUDING "legitimate rape"), THEN I'll respect Ryan and the man that he is today. The minute he DEMANDS (and unequivocally so) the EXACT and EQUAL rights to ALL of his "fellow Americans", be it through gender, orientation, race and personal life choices, is the moment I will acknowledge he's not your "typical politician" and someone who deserves to be VP. But NOT before he (and Romney) ceases their "god" complex as to women's rights. You want to discuss common "cents" issues don't muddle it with pocket change rhetoric. (Yes, spelling police, it was misspelled for your teeth grinding pleasure)

Ryan didn't go to Harvard, His father and Grandfather went to Harvard, his grandfather became a millionaire and Ryan was brought up in wealth,

He is just another fascist who has no connection or concern about the regular American people.

Nice try, anon..you might want to do a little research before you spew the liberal gruel....but then, being a liberal, you've never much for the truth, have you?

If you had info you would have presented it. I would list the failures of this President but I do not need to hold your hand to find the info.

Look up the facts. The Democratic party controlled Congress during President's Bush presidency. (Who passes the budget??) Look up who oversaw the banking industry for Congress and three months before the collaspe these two individuals told the world they were as strong as any bank in the world. If the Democrates knew how to solve the financial mess why can they not pass a budget for the last 3 years??

Look at who donates to the needy. Obama $1000, Biden $300, Romney $ 4,000,000 that is 4 million if you can not figure it out.

WOW! loved all the comments. I do like Ryan but heard some comments from an avid Paul supporter the other day that Ryan doesn't have a very good voting record as he voted along with the Dems on certain important issues. Anybody know anything more about it??

Hearsay - people spewing lies and sealing your past from the American people, what kind-of transparency is that? Terms of the government positions should be held to (2-4) years maximum to keep these corrupt politicians from becoming like "Fat F'n. Barney Frank", monopolize other government entities such as the housing FreddyMac/FannyMay departments and has his fingers in everything else. At least we know Romney is not there to take our money! He has enough! He is there, along with Ryan to SAVE our children's future. Our Country! Boomba could care less about this country, he wants to suceed at bringing our country down and making our country less of a major World Power Provider, turn it into more like a "third-world country". You better wake up and smell the smoke of Boomba - he dislikes us, as American's, he disses everything about this country - mainly cutting off our success - no energy - no moving "forward" like his election slogan says. No providing for our families - you will have to suck off the nipples of the government/which is the private sector, which creates the jobs and hires the people and pays the exuberant taxes to feed the government monster machine to welfare recipients and fraudulent government programs! Wake up and smell the smoke burning in Washington - Boomba's spendthrift actions! God Bless our troops and keep them safe!

Thank you Anon and "Very Worried", for taking the time to comment. Worried, you are so correct on Barney Frank et al; there are too many of them in Washington who have their fingers in multiple pies and thus do major damage.
I love the reference to the favorability of Romney because he's rich and doesn't need our money; in some cases that may very well be true!

Again, thanks.

I am surprised that the media is not allover this. I though the Obama administration stated that Romney is out of touch. This guy can related to the working class and I just found out over the weekend that the Romney do not have hired help cleaning their home. Ann and Mitt do their own shopping and cleaning, Wow these people are out of touch because we all have maids at home. I think the media got this wrong The Romney Ryan ticket is what America needs real people that knows what it takes to work.. Vote for this team to get America back on track.

A Modest Scribler said...

Anon, I read that Ann Romney did not want domestic help because she wanted her children to learn responsibility and she says she enjoys cleaning and cooking and even catering for parties.

Thanks for the comment.

I hope that those, who are called by His name, will adhere to Chronicles 7:14. That they will seek His wisdom to vote for the man of God who will lead this great nation. A man of God who has morals and whose life is grounded in the word of God. A man who will be an example to the nation over the next four years like Reagan did. A man who will remind us of the foundation that this great nation was built on as penned by our founding fathers. The choice is obvious! The question is, "Will I follow God or man in making my voting decisions?" I am ever mindful my vote will be recorded in heaven and I will be answerable in the final judgement.

Hey "Just",do you know the difference between the debt and the deficit. We have a 16 trillion debt, not deficit. So why not "Just" use a little "CommonSense" and study a little more so you can keep your foot out of your mouth..

Anon, thanks for pointing out the writing error; I'll correct that right away....oh by the way, the anger and snark in your comments seems to indicate a flaming liberal lurking in the midst...congrats! You were able to parse my article and find a mistake!

Sad that a one word mistake is the only defense you can provide for The Anointed One and his VP.

Thankgoodness, we just might get a Pres. & V/P we can trust & be proud of, they say women don't like Romney, well this woman doe's & further more I don't need someone telling me who I do & don't like, I can figure that out for myself MEDIA!!

Good for you anon! I've always wondered how women can swallow that war on women stuff that libs put out there. If conservatives don't feel taxpayers should have to pay for someone's birth control they are automatically considered "against women", just as we who oppose Obama are always called "racists"! Go figure!

Anyone who believes that the emergence of the Tea Party signaled a resurgence in our government and our way of life is way off base. The Tea Party is nothing more than a pack of puritanical cultists that believe they are the entitled ones. Religion and the crack pots that it spawns has no place in normal society. It's obvious where the author gets his twisted points of view.

A Modest Scribler said...

I think it's fairly clear that whenever I get a posting from a flaming liberal, it will always consist of hateful "labeling" and accusing "generalizations" and offer nary a point in refutation. Liberals are simply so mindless they are only capable of swallowing a "mantra" and never seem to be able to put the mind in gear and offer anything substantial.

Sad, Damned Sad.

OUTSTANDING!!anyone that can sit there and rail against the very thing they are engaged in with a straght face is seriously conflicted. As a fellow American, i am truly saddened by this type of behavior. Americans, I believe, should embrace their freedom and think for themselves. I can only surmise that this whole exercise is some sort of therapy for you, hope it works.

I feel real sorry for you ignorant, blind MORONS who do not see we have a NON US CITIZEN MUSLIM for President who wants nothing but to destroy the United States of America. He is quite "clever", stripping so many people of their pride by putting them in welfare, in exchange for their @*# vote! The worse part, is that you all are such ignorant morons that do not even realize it!! And when you do, it will be too late for YOU MORON!!
